Weather you are renewing your license or a new dealer, we provide the best continuing education in all of California. Our in-person classes are offered in numerous cities across California, and we conduct more classes than any other dealer education provider. Check out our Private In-Person class options here.

We are proud to now offer the California DMV approved Continuing Dealer Education Home Study Course where you get the convenience of studying and taking your test from home. To get started, head over to our Home Study page.

Yes, either online or in-person. The DMV requires that first time dealer license students attend a 6 hour class. Upon class completion you will be issued a certificate in which you then take to your local DMV inspector to show proof of your class completion. While our class prepares you for the DMV test, you will need to take your test with DMV to officially get licensed.

There are many things you will have to do, including calling your local DMV inspector to setup inspection, taking the DMV test and getting your fingerprints documented via LiveScan. You can take the test with any DMV inspector – the inspectors are listed on the DMV website: OL Inspector Field Office Locations. However, you must file your application with the DMV inspector from your area.

The dealer class is required every 24 months. To see which year you need to take the course please look at your renewal notice from DMV. There will be a notice in bold letters stating when you need to take the class.

The required document is the original Continuing Education Certificate of Completion or Exemption Certificate.

Wholesale Dealers with sales of less than 50 cars per year may file an exemption, otherwise, yes you need to take the course every other year. Remember you have many choices on how to take your course with Tri Star Motors LLC.
